this is an image of my favorite squirrel, the abert's squirrel (sciurus aberti). this rare black morphology is only found in the foothills of the rocky mountains in colorado. one thing that i find strange about squirrels is that some species, including the common ground squirrel here in california, hunt and eat voles.
